In service experience means: with-standing the most extreme tests, inherent accuracy, simple handling and operation, unproblematic maintenance. All typical characteristics of the SIG SAUER P 220-1. Dependable companion in all situations, a hefty feeling in your hand and confidence in the result of the shot. The handling safety of these precision weapons is also reassuring. A single decocking lever allows the hammer to be safely lowered into the rest position. In other words, the loaded, decocked weapon can be carried, because when the hammer is decocked, it is in register with the safety intercept notch. This safety concept is further optimized by the patented, automatic firing pin lock. A convincing feature of the SIG SAUER P 220-1 is the short reaction time, backed up by the multiple safety system. The double-action trigger provides first-shot potential.

Just out of curiosity are you left handed? get snap caps and have someone load your magazine mixing snap caps and regular rounds so you don't know what is in the chamber. When you have a snap cap and you squeeze the trigger the gun should not move. I will bet money that you don't have a .22 pistol. could have prevented this if you had started with a 22 pistol.
  • →SIG P220 or HK USP (.45 ACP)?

Just a general question about personal prefrences, PROS/CONS, reliability, quality, etc.....Basically I know both are high end pistols but I am looking for input from people who own or have used either one, or preferably both. Thanks
    Answered By: Sheepdog
When I made that choice, I went with the H&K USP 45. The guns are roughly the same size, but the H&K holds 12+1 rounds, while the Sig is an 8+1. Also, the H&K (variant 1) allowed me to carry the gun "cocked and locked", much like a 1911. The Sig only had a decocker, meaning that I'd have to either manually c0ck the pistol before firing, or fire the first round double action. Sig has since come out with a single action P220, but I've not yet had a chance to try it. The last thing that influenced my decision was the finish of the pistols. The H&K's slide had a corrosion-resistant finish, with a polymer frame. I had, on the other hand, seen several well-used Sigs with worn finishes and surface rust--although I don't recall them being P220s, particularly. I knew that not all Sigs had stainless steel slides, and that some of them had blued finishes. I do give the Sig higher marks for its "feel." The metal frame is simply nicer than the USP's polymer. It has a classier air about it. There are no polymer pistols that can compete with the metal-framed Sigs in aesthetic competition. Both of them a fine weapons. You can't go wrong with either of them. But the USP was my choice.

which one do you prefer and why?
    Answered By: Thomas R
I have one of each and they are both fine weapons. The Springfield of coarse is high capacity where as the Sig is not but the Sig's fit and finish is better along with the Sig's fit in your hand is one of the best. My Springfield came with Trijicon night sights but I still like the stock Sig sights better than any I have encountered. Basically they both reliably go bang, they are both accurate and well made so it is a matter of personal preference as they are both very good.
  • →1911 pistol. Keep it, or get more modern design like H&K USP, Sig Sauer P220, etc.?
    2008-01-18 06:00:26
I can't make up my mind and want someone to do it for me, please. :) A few months ago I picked up a new Sigarms 1911 pistol, which is one of the nicest handguns I've ever owned. Match grade components, Novak night sights, checkered front strap and mainspring housing, custom rosewood grips, etc.. Overall, it's very attractive and well made. As much as I like 1911's, I have to admit newer designs such as the Sig 220, for example, are probably more reliable and therefore a better choice for personal protection. To be honest, nearly all the 1911 pistols I've owned have had problems at some point. Usually it's feeding or ejection issues. Now here's the kicker: I got this Sig at an awesome price, probably at or below wholesale. It's still unused and I can easily make $300 profit selling it. So what would you do? Any compelling reasons to keep it? Sweet gun, but only 6+1 capacity. What newer designs have similar ergonomics to the 1911? Thanks for your help.

well i would keep it if its in reallly good condition cuz it will be a collectors item someday and when it sells for a few grand youll be hapy you did
